Accompanying you on your sustainability journey

The SDG Scan is an innovative educational and student consulting tool created to assist organizations in assessing and shaping their sustainability initiatives. The SDG scan equips students with a wide range of skills that enable them to contribute to the sustainability transition within complex business and organizational environments.

The SDG scan was recognized by the United Nations Academic Impact as one of the top 25 best practices worldwide for implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education. The tool was developed by Dr. Edina Dóci, director of the VU Sustainability Leadership Hub.

The VU Sustainability Leadership Hub and Amsterdam Sustainability Institute have co-developed and carefully designed an SDG Scan to help organisations formulate their own sustainability vision and identify the SDGs to which they can most naturally contribute. Our junior consultants have the knowledge and tools to help you future proof your organization.

The challenge

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out ambitious goals to protect our planet, end poverty and fight inequality and injustice. In this important challenge, for both the public and private sector, small and large businesses play an important role in achieving the SDGs. 

The SDGs are a great framework that organizations can use to find opportunities to become more sustainable for the long-term. 

We accompany you on your sustainability journey by:

  • Co-designing a tailored sustainability vision to specific organisational needs

  • Identifying the SDGs that best align with this vision

  • Providing the appropriate change management techniques to contribute to the SDGs

How we work

  • Personal & collective values

    Our student consultants will conduct a group workshop with you and your employees to identify your individual and collective driving values.

  • Collective sustainable vision

    From these values, a sustainability vision is co-created and tailored to your specific needs.

  • Identified SDGs & targets

    This sustainability vision will then be applied to the SDG framework, so as to identify the most harmonious SDGs to which your company can contribute.

  • Change management & leadership

    We will provide an advisory report, that includes the most appropriate change management techniques and leadership considerations to effectively transition and sustain your contribution to the SDGs.

In November 2020, 162 master students conducted 26 SDG Scans with client organisations based in 19 different industries and 7 different countries.
